I wanted to get your thoughts on just how malefic the sun is. The sun gives life to everything, yet if you get too close you will get burned. I usually think of it however as more of a benefic planet. For example, I was reading a chart and the woman had sun in the 4th, and I automatically said you have had a good home life and she responded yes, very good. Her father also had the career of a diplomat which could have been guessed as it opposes the 10th house of authority figures. I can't remember the sign it was in, but it wasn't Capricorn-- so just wondering your thoughts on instances when the sun turns out to be very malefic.
Thanks!
When we say malefic we speak from a worldly perspective of course. Not that it´s bad for a person´s evolution or for the soul´s journey. Toughness and hardship is often very good for that, obviously!
So it really depends on what type of astrologer you are, I think, and what the client wants to know about. "I have good news for you, you have a waning Moon, it will liberate you from the burden of having many things!" Kind of...

From what I remember hearing in one of Ernst's classes, the Sun never turns out to be very malefic (it's the Sun after all and he creates all the signs). But it has a cruel/separating component indeed. I have a debilitated Sun combusting Mars and Venus in my 2nd house ( ???? ), I was separated from my early childhood environment (2nd house stuff) when I was 11 which was difficult and my father never was too close (up until more recently). And it's challenging for me to tap into what I'm really inspired to do and express (though it's getting better with time and my understanding of astrology as well). So, those things are there and were challenging at times but I can't say it made me very unhappy or ruined my life in any way. I tend to have good and stable finances (Sun = stability, 2nd house = money/resources), probably being helped by a proud Venus in Libra. That's just a snapshot of my experience that doesn't say it all but hopefully helps with your question.
