Hi there, I think I'm in the right spot!  I have mercury exalted in the 12th house (in virgo) in my d-60.  I'm scared of losing my memory, so mercury in the 12th could indicate memory loss, but what does it mean that it's exalted?

Mercury rules my 9th and 12th houses.

Thanks!

Erin

Mercury in 12th will not cause loss of memory. You need actual pathologies to cause loss of memory.

Hi - not sure but  I think there’s 2 ways to look at this, I’m trying to understand

Mars rules brain’s basic functions and that  with Moon may determine brain abilities that if afflicted may result in Alzhaimer type of pathology

There’s also memory abilities determined by Mercury ( cognition, 5 senses  ) and here maybe would be issues more like forgetfulness due to a lack of attention. As you recently mentioned - rahu in or aspecting 12th house could give lack of focus and I’m thinking that if Mercury there it  may produce a lack of focus on one’s skills? Without afflictions and exalted maybe it means Mercury skills are used in 12th house affairs.

What is the counterpart?

Mercury is short memory- therefore  Saturn- long term memory? I’m always impressed by people with photographic memory, is that due to an ultra high awareness with exalted  Moon, Mercury, Mars combinations??

thank you

@veronica. Interesting, I definitely have a lack of focus.  I was reading your answer while doing data entry here at work.  🙂

Alright, that's somewhat comforting, thanks.  :). I read yesterday that scientists found a link between activities that use the hands, and memory retention.  Interesting that mercury rules both of them.
