I once heard that Cardinals (dead ones) are an omen of family death. I really never paid much attention to omens other than 'hearing' about a few. But the Cardinal thing happened to me. My brother passed (of old age) and I rec'd word by phone, he lived out of State from me. I was preparing for the five hour drive across country and backed the car to the house to retrieve my bag. When I stepped out of the car there laid a recently dead Cardinal. I nearly walked on it. This bird was not there when I walked over the same ground moments prior. If this was an omen it was late since word of my brother's passing was two days earlier. Just wondered if anyone else had any experiences of dead birds and family deaths.

my condolences on your brother´s death. It´s strange that this omen occurred 2 days later and that the bird wasn´t there before. Maybe something your brother wanted to tell you like be careful while driving / a warning ... or something completely different ...
I had an incident with a bird, not dead: it was a hot summer day and I was sitting in the garden with two friends: all of a sudden a carrier pigeon with a ring around appeared on top of the roof, slid over the sloping roof of the house and then over the windshield of the car parked in front of the house, from the car after some hesitating moments it fluttered to the table, where we offered it some water in a bowl and it drank. The dove was very trusting, no bird ever came so near to me before.
Next day in the morning I was informed by the relatives about my friend´s death after a serious disease, she was an elder lady: she died more or less in this period the dove appeared and my first idea was the information of the bird: the name of the street where friend and relatives lived is peace road, the bird was a peace dove and my deceased friend wanted an end of the constant family problems ... so I informed them about that message by the bird ...
I was very grateful that she left this - for me obvious - message and that she showed me her love in that unexpected way.
Late answer...
- My father-in-law was dying and I was praying in front of an altar. I had lit a bundle of thin candles for him on the floor. My wife, then fiancé, called or texted me telling me about her father´s passing just a couple of minutes before. I don´t if it happened immediately or maybe a minutes later, but a woodlouse showed up, walked around the candles and disappeared. I checked the symbology of woodlouse, and it´s obviously about humility but also about taking care of the offspring and finding abundance in simple things. The woodlouse has then showed up in several situations related to my father-in-law.
- Next day he was buried. A sister of him showed up, bragging about how much she had taken care of him as a child, which was not at all the truth my wife and her siblings had heard from their father´s mouth, rather the contrary, she had been described as rather envious and evil. In the same moment two cochroaches showed up, each of them landing on one of her feet. My wife had been in the family´s grave many times and had never spotted a cockroach there before, she said. Then they were other omen´s too, but they were a little too serious and ominous for to be told like this...
@staffan Thanks for sharing. It reminds me to be even more present in any situation or place and to observe what´s happening around me, including insects ... so valuable thx
