I was thinking, since menstrual periods are in cycles, and they are liquid in the body, I was thinking that they have to be astronomically connected to the moon also, right? So is there a way that we can look in a women's chart and see exactly when her menstrual periods are gonna start and end to the date? Somehow, like through the moon and Mars maybe? Is it possible to do that? And if so, how? I mean, how complicated can it be? Because it seems pretty simple to do that. It's moon cycle anyways, because it's monthly. Thanks.

I suppose

Moon, mars, venus, 6th house, 5th house, 8th house , lg, lg lord?

Interesting question. Also consider that, as far as I know (not being a woman) menstrual cycles can change, becoming shorter or longer, etc., so its not always exactly the same cycle. Also, I have heard stories of women, when staying together for a while, e.g., a camping trip, can have their cycles match up.

I've also heard from two women whose grandmothers said that they can't make mayonnaise when on their moon. The oil just won't emulsify and so it doesn't work...not really relevant to your question but I always thought that was fascinating.

@j0sh4rp3 To my knowledge, at least in the Lakota nation, women´s periods were syncronized and they would spend those days together in a tipi, basically as a ceremony. In their tradition women that are menstruating can´t participate in any other ceremony, and that´s because their period is considered a ceremony in itself. Actually the "first ceremony".

As for the mayonnaise being cut or how you would call it; the woman has a great power while on her period and one woman alone may ruin a complete tipi ceremony. It´s because the energy in that ceremony goes upward, while the energy of her ceremony goes down to the earth. The diné people, also known as navajos, that are like brothers and sisters to the lakotas, has a special medicine called "red medicine", that allows a woman in her period to participate in a teepee ceremony. It has been prepared by a prepubescent girl with the help of elder women. This is not a fairty tail but something that I have seen on several occations. Well, not the preparation part.

My wife is a chemist and makes herbal medicine. She has a problem with emulsions though, but like always, not only while she´s on her period. Already as a small girl she caused that to happen; her grandmother who was a herbalist wouldn´t let her come into the kitchen for that reason, on some occations.

I saw you mention Sundancing elsewhere. I participated in an inipi for about seven years when I lived near Seattle, WA. It was taught to a group there by a man named Gilbert Walking Bull, cousin of Godfrey Chipps, great-grandson of Woptuha (Crazy Horse's medicine friend). So I am familiar with some of those things. At one point that community had a Moon Lodge that would run during an inipi, so moon women would have somewhere to go. When I was there we didn't have that, or enough women to have a Moon Lodge. We always said the energy of the lodge/channunpa goes sunwise (clockwise) and a moon woman has energy that goes moonwise, so it isn't good to have both in the same ceremony. But as you mentioned we also talked about how the Lakota mentioned the moon time as a powerful ceremony in itself.

@j0sh4rp3 That's a new concept for me, but really beautiful. Time going Moontime and Sunwise, I mean. I remember an inipi ceremony in which one woman that showed up was on her period, and she was then offered a place where to contemplate a couple of hundred meters from the inipi, and the company of another woman. And they also pointed out that her own "private" ceremony - I mean the Moon - is held high in regard.

I´ve heard that one reason for war is that mother Earth wants blood. Not that she´s cruel or bloodthirsty in any way, it would just be a balance thing; she gives constantly and needs to get a little back just for balance. And that, for that reason, things would change if women would go back to offering some of their monthly blood to mother Earth. Sounds real to me, but who knows?

Menstrual cycles are also influenced by pharmaceuticals, hormonal contraceptives, and artificial light, among other factors. A natural cycle would ideally involve ovulation around the full moon and menstruation around the new moon for all women. So yes, the menstrual cycle is deeply connected to the lunar cycle. You can simply observe the moon to understand the cycle of a woman – but if a woman is taking f.ex. hormonal contraceptives, it's not possible to analyze her cycle in that way.

I think the connection to the moon cycles is easy to see, but hard to follow, as many women are more out of sync with their natural cycle due to the influences of modern life. I know a lots of women like hating their menstruation. Sad that we have lost the sacred connection to it. A Chinese doctor in her seventies once told me that she felt a bit sad when her menstruation stopped, because her body no longer went through that kind of energetic and physical purification...

@tamarap This may be a sensitive topic, but I´ve come to believe that a big part of the rage that many modern women show against men - not all of it of course - is a projection of their own anger for having abandonded their femininity. What you point out is an example of that - how sad that they don´t allow themselves to celebrate their bodies and bodily process, and their feminine task.

At the end of the day only surrender helps us, and that goes for men and women. But for modern women surrender reminds them too much about surrender to, well, let´s call it patriarchy, so it´s very hard for them to do that. In that sense, maybe men has an easier time today than what women have, although it used to be the other way round, I believe. There is a huge movement of men surrendering and in that process finding themselves, I believe. Exactly contrary to how it used to be for a long time. Well, I don´t suggest this is factual, it´s an interpretation.

I believe it's connected to the fact that when one has their period, they don't function in the way modern society demands. Retreating simply feels good to go with this process. Menstrual discomfort can be an indicator of an imbalance – there's a lot of knowledge about this in Chinese medicine. I rather think that women hate their menstruation because they suffer from it, and they suffer from it because they can't function as well in a world primarily focused on performance. This is something I'd associate with masculine qualities or the fire element. Going with menstruation, therefore, would mean not acting, acting passively, resting and being receptive – introversion. This, in turn, fits with the symbolism of the moon.

@tamarap Wise words. But also, if we live our life in complete denial of who we are and our innate nature, being reminded of it by your own body... It may feel like a betrayal, like being betrayed by your body. So the pain is more than physical, I believe. Or rather: The physical pain would in many cases be much easier to endure through acceptance and embracing it´s purpose. Which their ideology doesn´t allow them to do...

The problem is that only a feminine attitude can ease the pain. Any pain, and that goes for men and for women. Only acceptance and a willingness and go with the flow can help us to endure the pain. Again: Any pain. But when ideology tells modern women that surrender is weakness and a result of oppression... It´s really a problem of their own making, to a large degree. Not saying that they can have it, that they deserve it, but I do say that it´s a problem that to a large degree goes away when they choose to embrace their femininity.

Now, interestingly there is a masculine element in the act of surrender. It´s still an action. We have to take the decision and we have to actively keep the posture. Basically being a warrior. Man or woman.

I don’t think so. Excluding all which could disturb cycle we would all have them at the same time (and have had them that way in the past when life was less influenced by chemicals, artificial light etc). Billions of women. I didn’t find any evidence from the past supported that insane level of synchronicity. Hormones are not water.

@omanis,  that wasn't meant to be a scientifically confirmed statement. There are indications, but it's not precisely known. It's based on my own observations. I think it’s not a coincidence that a woman’s cycle is mostly as long as the cycle of the Moon. Obviously this changes in perimenopause.

Moon cycle is 29,5 days, so close. hormones are produced, stored, regulated and moved in different body parts, which have they own planets rule them. They are moved by blood where associations with Moon (blood contains water) can be made. Moon is associated with “menstrual hormones” which does not exist. Those are estrogen, progesterone, Thyroxine etc. and they will not move with blood if they are not produced by organ that should produce them (Which are associated with different planets). Association of menstrual cycle with Moon is (for me) only symbolic, not a mechanical fact. Never have I made any correlation of my own cycle with moon (I naver took any hormones, does not matter to my cycle if I am  vegetarian or not).

@omanis Well, Moon rules rhythm. I don´t think we should discard the Moon´s influence on anything that has to do with rhythm. Everything is up for discussion of course, but in an astrological context it´s really one of the pillars. You move that and the house comes tumbling down, more or less.

What makes you feel/believe that your own cycle isn´t correlated with the Moon?
