Does the Sun really agitate a planet from 25+ degrees away just because it's in the same Rasi? For example, my Mars is at 1 degree Sag and my Sun is at 28 degrees Sag. Is my Mars really all that agitated as the LA calculations suggest? If not, where do we draw the line? It makes sense that it is agitated simply for being in the same "pile" as the Sun, but I want to be sure.

Yep, it gets agitated. But if its actaully combust and not retro, its much more severe. When a planet is further from teh sun and still agitated, it can deal with the agitation a bit better as it will have some more chestha bala, not a lot, but more than when it's really close to the sun. Mercuryand venus when retro have a lot of chestha bala even if close to sun.
