I've heard a great deal about the doctrine of Rasi Sandhi, and I see it mentioned only 3 times in this forum, and only in passing.  I believe this is because the proper explanation for this as a predominantly negative planetary position is the fact that 50% of the time the planet is Mrita.  However, this makes the other 50% Bala, which is of course "weaker" per se, but significantly different.

I see many astrologers looking at a planet in the Initial or Anaretic degree and just calling both "Rasi Sandhi."

Therefore, is it clear and accurate to state that there is no such thing as "Rasi Sandhi" as this is only a "rule of thumb" for either Mrita or Bala Avastha? And then to equate Mrita with Bala is bad practice, this being just one more terrible rule of thumb!?

I believe this to be true, can anyone back up this assessment?

Relatedly, do the Baladi Avasthas have exact "Peak" degrees just as there are singular degrees of exaltation? It sounds like Ernst is implying this in video #5 of "Mastering Debilitation" when Jupiter is in the last degree of Libra (43:00 of video).  This should have a yes or no answer.

I can't see how the first and last Trimsamsa of a rasi could systematically produce consistently positive or negative results. So I'm discounting that until proven otherwise.

And I am as yet unaware if the Vedic tradition treats Initial and Anaretic degrees similar to the way Classical Hellenistic/Arabic astrologers do.  Are the Vedic texts silent of this phenomenon or not?

Can anyone bring light to this "Rasi Sandhi" phenomenon and help me clarify what's actually going on?  I do see this as having a significant impact in my practice, but don't want to rely on any rule of thumb.

It would also imply that the AK oftentimes is weak, since it´s often in Bala avastha. One often hears the assessment that a planet "can´t produce anything" due to a bad Deeptadhi avastha, but that seems overly dramatic to me? I´m not saying, rather I´m asking - is that really so. Because again: Then the AK would oftentimes not be able to produce anything. Nor would the DK, in many cases.

In the CoT tradition, also taught by Ernst, we don´t even consider deeptadhi avasthas, we judge the planets only on their placements, dignity and the LA. Wouldn´t that lead us wrong, then?

Sandhi has nothing to do with Bala avastha. Bala avastha does not have a peak. Rasi Sandhi applies only to the lagna and weakens the chart slightly. Muhurta only uses it in the first 3 degrees of fire signs and last 3 degrees of water signs. HEre its called Gandhanta and thats all you have to worry about. Planets at end of signs are no problem.
