Real vs physical eclipse event, and is avoiding gems that are 8th/6th/12th position applicable to rahu and ketu?

I remember listening to Ernst talk about eclipses, and he made the comment on how the actually astrological eclipse event usually doesnt happen at the time of the physical eclipse. I am curious as to how that works since I only recall that in passing. I want to say it was the 30th may be the time of the event of the current one happening in october, but I am asking because that was a rather difficult day.

So does 6th/8th/12th positioned gems rule apply to nodes? I dont have many of those around to experiment and I am curious what your experience is with all of that. I have personally found that this can be acceptable at times if it accidentally hits a planet with a fatal degree, but I wouldnt be habited about it.
