Hello fellow students,

Which planet is the "soul planet"? I've heard this concept come up in several videos but I seem to have accidentally skipped the video in which it is explained.

Many thanks!

Caroline

I think you are referring to the atmakaraka, literally, "self-producer". It is the planet that has the highest number of degrees in any sign. For example, say Jupiter is at 29:45 of Sagittarius and Saturn is at 29:30 of Aquarius and all the other planets are less than 29 degrees in their signs, then Jupiter is the atmakaraka.

It is one of the seven luminous planets; Rahu, Ketu, and the outer planets are not atmakarakas.

@j0sh4rp3 Yep, and if I made add: It´s a so called "self factor", just as the Lagna (ascendant) lord and the Sun (but only if strong), meaning that it´s an indication of who you are. It may used for assessing your career for example, or just as "you" in different situations. In the birth spread, to the right, there is a table over the different Chara Karakas, or Jaimini Karakas, as they are called, based on their degree in their respective rasi. The most used is the one with the highest degree, the AK - atmakaraka, but also the one with the lowest degree, the DK or DaraaKaraka, which represents the spouse.

Then you have the natural karakas, planets that represents certain person´s in every horoscope. So for example Moon and Mars represents the mother, Sun and Venus the father, Jupiter the husband in a woman´s chart, etc.

I don´t remember how much Ernst explains this in the cards course, maybe you have to subscribe to his astrological course for this. It´s Jaimini astrology and there are three courses on that on the astrology-video page; that´s overkill for just the cards though.
