Hi Ernst

You have pointed out that aspects are rarely used in varga charts, but you gave the instance of the following yoga from BPHS Ch. 40 s. 13/14

If 6 divisions of the lagna are occupied or aspected by one and the same planet, a Raja Yoga is formed, namely in Shadvarga charts.  The sutra also says, according to whether the aspect is full/half/one fourth, the results will be full/medium/negligible.

You have stated aspects are astronomical since they are longitude-based and are usually not to be calculated or used in varga charts.

Should one then categorically rule out the use of aspects in varga charts and not consider them at all in the analysis of varga charts?

Yes, this sutra points towards the use of planetary aspects in the vargas, but I don't like to use it personally.

There is still considerable confusion on this point, and I know other astrologers who do consider using varga aspects calculated on the varga longitudes.

I'm inclined to do what Ernst does, as you pointed out, Angela, and that is to use rasi aspects in the varga charts as well without recalculation.

Saravali bases everything on planetary aspects.
