Since both D4 and D16 has to do with the 4th house of home, and D16 in particular, which is concerned with vehicles, and vehicles being our means of travel - which is more important in regards to predicting residences, D4 or D16?
Jaimini Sutras chapter 1 has the best techniques for predicting what type of house you'll live in. You check in D1, D9, D4 and secondary D16 (which is more emotional nature)
D4 is not really home, it's fortune, which includes owning a house or land, and that would be the 4th and 7th (4th from 4th) cusps of the D4. To own a home you need manifesting influences to 4th cusp in D4 and also check the pada of the 4th cusp.

@silvia my question wasnt concerned with what kind of houses you live in, its more about where you live - is it your hometown, somewhere far from hometown, or somewhere really far, in foreign lands.
Its vert interesting that there is no varga explained as directly relating to house as its such an important consideration. I use the D4 primarily because house is directly related to fortune. Having more fortune really only has ONE advantage and that is getting more space. Having tons of stuff, gong on vacations all the time, having millions in jewelry, none of that makes life better. but having more personal space does. Living in a high rise aprt building where one is never more than 20 feet from another person's energy because there is always someone on the other side of a wall, under the floor, or above the ceiling is not ideal. As fortune increases a person can get more space and be more free of the subtle energy effects that happen when around people. Its healthy to experience ourselves just as ourselves and not only as ourselves being influenced by the auras of other people. NOtice how you are a little different around everyone you spend time with? Thats because of the effect of two auras coming together, its like having a planetary transit, there is an influence. So while its great to have our auras influenced as it can give us insights, help us feel and understand things, etc etc, but its also important to be 100% free of another's aura influence sometimes especially during sleep. So really, the most useful part of having fortune is a larger place to live.
