Let's say lagna is in odd rashi and it's lord falls in an even rashi  so to count 2nd and 8th from the pada do we have to go straight since lagna falls in odd rashi or reverse since pada falls in even?

And why is someone born with this yoga? And if their hard work goes to waste should they try even harder to achieve their goal or should they consult to comfirm and astrologer as to what is their destiny in the first place assuming it'll be easier for them to be sucidal...

as you are counting from the pada, go forward or reverse based on the odd even of the Pada.

People are born with hard yogas to learn to find a happiness that is not based on life working out.

@ernst but what if even after realising this they still aren't able to produce internal happiness and keep going through hard materialistic day to day life without any internal motivation?

Like many know it after some hardships but the real life remains the same then what?

@wanderer there is still the whole rest of the chart to work with.  The planets involved in kemadruma will have some friendly planet aspect and this will give some comfort.

Jupiter is joy giving wisdom, so Jupiter can always help.

The 4th house is happiness within so any positive aspects here can help.

Sun is happy when it does actions from inspiration, this helps.  So do something inspired.

Moon is happy when it recieves signs recognizing it's value, this helps.  Give yourself a gift that has meaning and be receptive to the gifts from the outer environment that go unnoticed.

The chart should be taken as a whole and everything is relating to everything either directly or indirectly so there is always resources to work with even if that resource is time, patience can be proactive.

@wanderer I know what you mean.

I have several layers of of difficult yogas and this includes a severe 8th house dainya yoga in the varga of happiness (D16) involving a debilitated Jupiter and Saturn-Mars conjunction. And my Ju is db in the D30 as well. (In fact, Ju is also my lagna, pada, and swamsha lord. And Ma is my d1 5th lord and lord of ak moon. Both Ju and Ma are severely starved in the D1)

So am I here to find happiness that is not based on being happy?

Or am I here to suffer and cause suffering? (Vishnu does that too, apparently.)

Ernst says those of us with Rahu in the 9th need to learn to love God. But it is hard to see this possibility in my chart. These days I often think God wants my hatred and for me to know he hates me as well, and to have no doubt about it!

Not saying it as the final word or to bring everyone down, but its often there. Almost constantly.

Its a good thing that 25% has nothing to do with astrology and bad yogas!

@mitryendra80 If Rahu is in the 9th then Ketu is in the 3rd, indicating the security paradigm is through the rational mind, when brought to an extreme results in nihilism, loss of faith and belief (a debilitated or starved Jupiter).  Could your conclusions in this matter be another product of the rational mind and a defense mechanism (castle walls)?

This scene is like a king under siege in a castle.  It goes on and on with vitriol between the two opposing sides both seemingly confirming their antagonism by the latest provocation.   I wonder what the king would say to the question of what does he stands to gain by prolonged struggle and what does he stands to lose by lowering the draw bridge and marching out.  This also reminds me of Lieutenant Dan during the storm on the shrimp boat in Forrest Gump.
