hi ernst,

jamini refers to the bhavas that the lagna lord conjunct or aspect as focal bhavas along with the house lords that aspect or conjunct the lagna.

are the house lords that conjunct or aspected by the lagna lord ,not taken into account as focal bhavas as well? if not how do we refer to those?

specifically this case?

saturn ,rules the 8 th and 9th cusp, and conjunct the lagna lord mercury.

mercury rasi aspects the 8 cusp , so manifest it and focuses on it,   saturn (lord of 8th) manifest  it as well as its lord.

note: rahu sits in the 9th alone(which i thought , shows path focus on the 9th cusp)

can we consider  the 9 cusp as : 1. focal house as well( by mercury, lagna lord conjunct saturn, 9 lord) and thus, enen thought, not directly aspecting it, by  conjunction  saturn (9th lord) becomes focal bhava?

2.does mercury manifest the 9th by its conjunction to saturn ? if yes, is the 9th cusp is a  secondary focus and manifestation or non of either ?.

it does make sense ,that in a case like that,  8th and 9th can go hand in hand, as 8 house events can likely to trigger spiritual seek as a way to deal with the 8 house changes and set backs, but i am not sure if we can draw that conclusion, if there is no direct connection of the 9th to the lagna lord or ,9th lord to lagna or ak.

please advise how to analyze that case

Jaimini does not tell us clearly to take the house lords to lagna lord, but I think we should.

thank you, that helps a lot and express itself in the charts i am looking at.

another question comes up for me regarding rahu in a house. it happens, that rahu can be in a house that doesnt have any focal connection, but with it, it does imply path focus in its essence. how do we treat that duality?

Rahu is the road we are on, the focal bhavas show things we do a lot off. The rahu rahu is always an obscure road that we don't travel regularly especially in the first half of life, the focal houses are houses that are always part of our life.
