Ernst,

The Dignities video points out that shadbala is not to be used for gauging the auspiciousness (good or bad results) of planets. That is gauged from the dignity of the planet.

Now shadbala includes the saptavargaja bala, which reflects the dignity of the planet.  Also, Shuba/Ashubha reflects the dignity of the planet, and is used to calculate Auspiciousness/Inauspiciousness ratio of the planet.

The A/UA ratio is  a numerical ratio. But it is only to be used in yogas.

For the evaluation of a natal chart, we have to use dignity (which can be evaluated numerically) and avasthas (which cannot be evaluated numerically).

Is there any numerical value we can use to evaluate the auspiciousness of a planet in the natal chart without considering house lordships, namely purely in the natal chart? One that combines dignity and avastha information, for example?

Anil

This is my own thing but I like to look at the Varshaphala screen, age set at "0" and check the DwaDasha Vargiya Bala (12 divisional strength) to check the auspiciousness of each planet at birth. The calculation is based on the dignity of planets in 12 Vargas. I usually don't like to mix and match but somehow I like to have that snapshot. Also, great in combination with Pancha Vargiya Bala (capacity to produce)

Yes, you can use the varshaphala techniques for the birth chart to get to know the capacity of the planets in respect to those principles of Tajika. SHad bala is relevant to the auspiciousness of a planet, but you can't just use it and be correct. Its really the avasthas that you need to focus on. Trying to do it with one of the strength calculations does not work.
