I understand Sakata Yoga is created when Jupiter is 6 or 8 houses from the Moon.  I have this with the Moon in Aries in the 3rd house and Jupiter in Virgo in the 8th house. Is the effect the same with Jupiter also being the atmakaraka in Rashi and Navamsha?

Yes, the yoga will still be there. If Ju is in OH or EX sign, then it is Mukuta Yoga which is more auspicious to the chart in general.

Thanks Scott. I've seen that Mars aspecting the Moon my be a cancellation factor. I have MT Mars in Aries - do you think this will mitigate the Yoga?

If Mo or Ju form good yogas then the overall effects of Sakata Yoga are mitigated to some extent. Ma and Mo conjunct is chandra mangala yoga which in general is seen as positive.

If you want to see how 'bad' or 'good' the yoga is, check the yoga points in the yoga screen in Kala to see its overall effects.

Thanks again Scott. This is a very interesting yoga to explore.  I am now 66 years old and have the benefit of hindsight on how this yoga has worked out in my life. Indeed its been a rocky road with my parents divorcing when I was 10 and everything that went along with it. I really didn't find my footing until I was married at 30 and then my career got better at 40.  I had a good career in marketing for a very large technology company and am now a practicing astrologer.

I looked for others that have this yoga who have been successful despite it. I found Stephen Sondheim who also dealt with his parents divorcing at 10 and the hell he went through with his mother as she projected her ex-husband onto him. I had a very similar experience with my mother. His Moon is conjunct Saturn and mine to Mars.

I'm wondering if anyone else has stories they can share in relationship to the Sakata Yoga. There is a lot of bad press out these on it but my sense is that the rocky road can get smoothed out with time and wisdom.
