I am currently in my second year of studies with Freedom Cole after studying your courses for 4 years. In the tradition that he teaches, they use exultations and rulerships for Rahu and Ketu which I know you haven't found to be a very useful technique (I agree with you both in principle and practice).
One technique which they teach that I have found to work well concerns aspects for Rahu. The reasoning is since Rahu is the head of the nodes, it does give drishti. Ketu, being headless, gives no drishti. The full aspects that they use for Rahu are 5th house, 9th house and 12th house aspects. Since Rahu moves in reverse, the 12th house aspect becomes a 2nd house aspect in application. I have found that these aspects work very reliably.
Have you ever worked with these aspects and would you ever consider making them an option in Kala?

Hi Chris, in my early days of doing vedic astrology I used the aspects of rahu and ketu in that way. But i dropped it as not finding it really helpful and often misleading. ALso, the text books that tell how to calculate the aspect values exactly do not do so for rahu and ketu so this also brings me to question if its valid and if so, what calculations do we actually use. For the other planets we are given specific calculations, for rahu and ketu, we would be making a guess at the aspect value calculations, so I think if people want to use the node aspect its best to just use the full aspect value.

also, some reasons I think it APPears that rahu and ketu cause these aspects is the following. If rahu is in a fire sign, the fire element is reduced in the person. They do not want to go to that element. So any planets in fire signs there is some resistance to going to. Also, 5th and 9th cause argala, but that is not an aspect, its a different thing. Aspects color things, argala locks something into place.
The 2nd from rahu is the house it just moved through. I have taught how to cut the chart in half, rahu side, ketu side. anything close to rahu is in the jungle, anything closer to ketu is in the castle. The closest places to rahu are the 2nd and 12th, so there is always some resistance to going to these places. There will be more resistance to the house that Rahu just passed through then the one it will pass through next, so the 12th in reverse has more resistance.
