I've been thinking about this a bit recently, and then in a response to looking at Bjork's chart someone said that they imagined she would have a strong Aquarius focus "because in a way she’s very innovative and fearlessly different from the norm".
This idea of being innovative and different from the norm, it seems to me like especially in Western astrology that is the view of Aquarius, but does that really make sense being a sign ruled by Saturn?
Saturn wants to survive, and Aquarius is fixed air with a lot of water added. To me this means being integrated into the community. Humans actually can't survive on their own as individuals, they need a community to even survive physically, and the vast majority of us need other people in order to be fulfilled in any other way as well, especially emotionally.
So it seems to me like Aquarius would be more about fitting into the community. To do so effectively we need to be an individual who really has something to offer, but if it is too innovative and different form the norm, then that doesn't really seem good for community function.
Very innovative and fearlessly different from the norm sounds more like Aries to me.
Just considering the qualities of Saturn and Aquarius, it seems to me that Aquarius would privilege community and the proper functioning of individuals in community over innovation and difference.
I would welcome any thoughts or considerations on this topic, i.e, what is Aquarius really?
(p.s., also relevant to me personally, having Rahu in Aquarius.)
in Ernst's Rahu/Ketu courses he says of Rahu in Aquarius "the native is rapidly becoming individualized." So on a Jungian level perhaps Aquarius is the sign of Individuation so there would be a challenge from awareness of the group and yet due to that awareness finding one's uniqueness in the midst of the collective.
