Such an interesting question and experience! I would say this feels like more of an 8th house thing -- finding secretive things. Your 8th lord is in the 7th with the 7th lord, so it could mean finding secret things out within relationships or people you work with (like that engagement ring example you gave!).
I have Rahu in the 8th from the ascendant, although it's not on a cusp. My 8th lord is in the 12th. I've had experience with deeply personal matters being revealed by "hidden enemies." Though I don't have experience with physically finding secretive things from others.
Rahu in the 8th is tough. I'm currently running its pratyantar dasa and it feels like fear after fear has been coming up, along with some concrete 8th lord in the 12th sort of stuff.

- The 8th lord Mercury is also the DK. Partner theme. With Venus: partnertheme.
- Venus in the 7th (conjunct the 8th lord) rules 12th. It´s also the BK, indicating siblings, aka team mates.
