Hello Fellow Astrologers and Spiritual Seekers,

I have noticed changes in my psychology and life circumstances based on the waxing and waning of the moon. I picked up a general western astrology book about the moon and it said that the new moon is the beginning of a certain "theme" of meeting our psychological needs. As the moon waxes we are given more resources to meet that need with the culmination at the full moon. Then the waning of the moon serves as a means to "trim the fat" sort a speak. To take away the material manifestations that are no longer necessary of what we have integrated into our psychology. What are other people's thoughts on this? I have not come across any courses that specifically discuss this phenomenon from @ernst and am interested in learning more.

Thanks,

Ben

Hi Ben, not talking from an astrological point of view: what you possibly  experience in the moon phases , has a counterpart in the female and natural cycle. The egg matures until ovulation at the time of the full moon and is expelled at new moon if it has not been fertilized. ( this is the natural rhythm which has widely been modified by extensive exposure to electricity and hormonal treatments) in the same way, psychologically, things can mature in the period of waxing moon. Maybe we can say , that these things also come more to the surface of consciousness . Letting go and internalizing are qualities of the waning moon. The juices in plants also retreat into the earth when the moon is waning, while they shoot into the stems, leaves and flowers when the moon is waxing. Which can be seen as an internalising process on one hand and externalised energy towards fulfillment on the other.
What this means astrologically I only can guess in making the transfer from the natural world (example here above) to human life. I know that it has a significance if you are born while the Moon was waning or waxing. Hope my simple answer helps.

@tamarap Thank you Tamara! So the new moon is less about beginning and more about expelling. The waxing period after the new moon has more to do with the growing of life.

In order to start something new, there is first a passing or time for rest. The new beginning would then be at the beginning of the waxing moon and culminate in the full moon. That's how I would interpret it. The waxing moon reflects more and more the light of the sun while waning it disappears in the darkness. There are a lot of exciting mythologies of different cultures about this symbolism. There is a western astrological book of Liz Greene and Howard Sasportas about the luminaries and the moon cycles which I found interesting: https://www.amazon.de/Luminaries-Psychology-Horoscope-Psychological-Astrology/dp/0877287503/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?crid=3F8ABQZTPOHKK&keywords=liz+greene+saspora+luminaries&qid=1702498964&sprefix=liz+greene+saspora+luminaries%2Caps%2C79&sr=8-1

Some say the new moons represent the moods and frequencies of the Earth or Earth goddess and each new moon a different dakini or mahavidya (representatives of the Earth goddess) comes onto shift. This way humans can be in sync with the Earth and learn what she has to teach.
