Hi Ernst,

Just contemplating here. I have learned that Vargas 1 to 12 each Varga has a main planet and critical Bhavas. So D-2 Moon is the main planet. D-3 Mars is, D-4 is Mercury, D7 is Jupiter, D-9 is Venus, D-10 is Saturn and D-12 is Rahu and Ketu. We analyze the Rasi for the condition of all these 7 planets and of course Rahu and Ketu. But to really judge the condition of how good or how bad a planet is we really have to look at the Vargas where they are the main player.

For example let's say in the Rasi Mars and Saturn conjunct which is not good in general. To see how well Mars is doing we need to look at the Drekkana as well as the condition of Saturn in D-3. This will give us a more comprehensive picture of the quality of Mars by analyzing both the Rasi and the Drekkana. If in the Rasi Mars is not so good but the Varga is very good (this can happen), it implies to me the quality of this Mars is somewhere in the middle or at least for the D-3 Mars is perhaps better than average than what the Rasi is indicating...

We can't really conclude how good or bad our Ketu and Rahu are without analyzing the Dwadasamsa D-12.  Yes, we look at the Rasi, but we also have to look at D-12 because they are the main factors in the D-12. We have to look at what they aspect or conjunct in D-12 to judge how readily and successful we will be journeying to the Rahu house. If Rahu conjuncts another planet in the Rasi that tells us the planet needs to be developed. We also need to look at that planet in the D-12 too. If that planet is good in the Dwadasamsa, it will help Rahu, but if that planet is bad in the Dwadasamsa then the Rahu journey will be a lot more difficult.

I have never thought of analyzing Rahu and Ketu this way, but it makes sense to me. Is this the correct understanding? Thx!

Yes, that is a good way to go about it.
