Surrounding cards

Hi Ernst 

You mentioned like if a card is surrounded by spades, it will have difficulties and delays working out. In light on a star spread, can we say "going against card" no 5 is surrounded by future card no 3, foundation card no 1 and outcome card no 7?

I mean do we need to figure out surrounding cards visually and not necessarily sequentially?
