Hello @ernst

In concrete meaning of cards course you provided their meanings. Now say we pull 9 of spades as the problem or future card in the spread, for one person it can mean accidents and for other person it can mean working selflessly. So how to differentiate between the two?

I am thinking if 9 of spades is upside down then we can easily pick the negative meaning else we can pick the positive meaning. Similarly say 7 of spades, one person could be facing the limitation of his strength and positively moving to 8 of spades for deeper introspection and other get addicted to alcohol and stay there and ruin his life. However as you said you read upside down only for J, Q and K. So how do you decide whether to pick predominantly positive or negative meaning of the number cards?

Thank you

You have to  use the spread as a whole to figure that out.

Okay Ernst, upside down J, Q and Ks as part of spread would certainly bring the negative aspects of the numbers involved in the spread. The other easier way to see if numbered card is giving positive or negative aspect is to shuffle the whole arcana cards too and see the corresponding arcana card for that number is facing upside or downside especially if we don't have J,Q and Ks coming up in the spread?

Thank you

To my understanding, based on Ernst´s teaching, the cards behave due to the rules that you set up for them. If you for example decide to read every card upright/reverse, then they are going to answer in that way. But for that to work one has to be constant in one´s approach, of course and not change the rules for the reading at a whim.

I also think that, when it comes to card reading, trusting one´s intuition is extremely important. Gut feeling. Often the surrounding cards and the position help you to get the meaning of course, like if you find a negative card in a helping position or v v - well, then you must find the positive meaning in it, like for example restriction working for you, or the healing aspect of a black seven. A positive card in a negative position could indicate indulgance, or being too dependent on a helper or something like that.

I sometimes ask the deck for a clarification or more nuance by laying a second card on the first one. That could be a tarot card too, of course.

For what it´s worth...

If you want to read cards upside down, the secret to doing it is to realize that an upside down card means that they did not get through the previous card fully, as a result they can't get trhough the upside down card. SO take an upside down 7, that means the perso nis really struggling to let a loss or transition happen. Why? Cause of the previous 6 card, cause they did not get the fulfillment they wanted or thought they deserved, so they struggle to let go and move foward. So in this case, if its possible for them to go back and make peace wiht a situation and find the meaning in it even if they did not get what they were hoping to, basically, help them find the fulfilling thing aobut the situation that was the 6.
