is it possible for an experienced astrologer to simply observe someone's behaviour and be able to detect their Ascendant, moon sign or sun sign simply  by observance without looking at a birth chart?

and my second question is this.

Can someone clear up these terminologies: ascendant, rising sign, lagna, kundli and Rasi...... are these all synonyms?

thank you in advance

Namaste

My understanding is that, yes, an experienced astrologer can figure out the ascendant and planet(s) in the ascendant by looking at a person and the other way around (describe the person based on a chart). Ernst talks about some of that in the Graha Sutras audio course.

Ascendant, Rising sign and Lagna are used interchangeably (though Lagna seems to be the most appropriate term according to some), Rasi is the sign (Aries, Taurus, ...), Kundli is the birth chart I think.

@khan I never heard of the term “Lagna chart”... The Rasi chart is the D1 or main horoscope, with its own lagna based on time of birth so probably Lagna chart is the same as Rasi chart?

@khanT

he only reference I could think for lagna chart is when you use a diamond or North Indian chart.

There can be then lagna chart (risible sign as the lagna), Moon chart (moon sign considered lagna) or Sun chart (Sun sign considered lagna) These also combine to form what is known as 'Sudarshan chakra', but I haven't applied it.
