Hello, question around ashtakavarga.
Usually if a natal planet is doing poorly in the D1, I see a correlation with the transit of that planet not being as strong. (ie: Jupiter in Gemini has been not as positive as say, Jupiter in Cancer will be but especially if Jupiter is starved in own chart).
However, I am unsure how to layer ashtakavarga. I'm seeing conflicting information. (Jupiter in Gemini at 7 vs in Cancer at 3)
Do we then refer to the vargas to get detail of how well that planet will fare? Or am I employing the wrong technique with these sarva tables?
For me ashtakavarga sarva tables are secondary information, but I'm still curious to see how anyone else is approaching this.
Thank you.
Yes, if a planet is poor in the natal chart, the person cannot use it well, which means, they won't be able to use the planet as well in transit either.
Ashtakavarga is a very different thing. It does not care about the signs, just the placements from the other planets. Are the other planets supporting the transiting planet or not? If they are supporting it, then that planet will do better during that time. Again, look to see how that planet is in the birth chart ashtakavarga to see how well supported that planet is in thier chart. So if Jupiter is getting 5 points of transit in cancer, see the sign Jupiter is in in their natal chart, if it's in aries and it gets 1 point, then they are not in the habit of having their planets support Jupiter so in ashtakavarga transit, it won't do as well and the long term results will not be there - after the transit is over they are not in the habit of maintaining Jupiter.
Its best to do ashtakavarga as a stand alone system. I don't find it working great to try to mix ashtakavarga points with dignties and so on.
Hi Ernst, Thanks so much.
The method for assessing dignities in natal as it translates to the transit behavior has worked quite well for me, so I was getting confused with Ashtkakavarga sarva.
To be 100% clear I understand, I am attaching the example of Jupiter being strong in the D1 Cancer but weak in the ashtakavarga. So you are saying that it is because it is not being supported by the other planets, its results while in its own sign will be fine but not that great due to having low bindu in this placement?
Thank you again.
So this Jupiter is proud, a good thing and it will strongly manifest that house and what it rules. It will do that through itself, through its placement in cancer.
THen it has 3 factors supporting it in ashtakavarga which means 5 factors not supporting it. So when Jupiter is in cancer, those 5 planets are saying, geez, we don't like this thing that Jupiter is giving to us! and three planets are saying, we like what jupiter is giving to us! So much of what this person will get with jupiter while perhaps good things, this person will not feel all that great about them. I really need to do another course on ashtakavarga with interpretations in detail on this.
The way to start learning it is looking at if its in a good place from the moon. When in a good place from the moon the transit is something our child mind, or ego, our subjective self, aka, selfish self, likes. WHen in a bad place from the moon, its something this part does not like.
TO get a feel for this, look at saturn transits and get clear on those. When saturn is in 3/6/11 from moon he is good from the moon. Saturn ends things when he goes through a sign. If its 3/6/11 its the end of something that feels good to the moon to end. Like poverty, disease, a relationship they have been wanting to escape, perhaps an end to loneliness, or the end of some need that has being exhausting and painful to fulfill. When transiting other places, what ends, the moon does not like it, it wants to continue to cling to it. In either case, it's just as important it ends and its good for the person, but only in 3/6/11 does the moon like it.
After getting a feel for that, look at Jupiter from the moon. Jupiter expands something, manifests something, but does that feel good to the Moon? surprisingly not all of the time.
I will be teaching a class on transits from child mind moon eventually to start this more involved examination of ashtakavarga. There is a lot of info in it.
Yes, see which are and which are not to get the details of what exactly is happening to that planet. Start from the moon as that is the child mind and has so much to do about how our current state of emotional mind is supporting that planet in its responsibilities or not. Then look from the Sun to see how our ideas for what we should be doing and how we should be living our lives are supporting that planet or not. Then look from lagna to see how our day to day way of living is supporting that or not. After that you will have a very solid grip on the concept and can take it to the other planets easily.
Share some examples with us if you like, would be helpful for everyone.
