I have noticed, some Vedic astrology software corrects the birth time based on the longitude of the birth location, but it seems like some software don't. As per my understanding, its crucial to know the exact planet placement during the birth for analysis. Do what is the correct method? What Kala software does?

I don´t think it´s about the method, I think it´s about  putting in the right data. But Ernst would know better, of course.

That is part of the calculation, the atlas provides the time zone, which is used to change the birth time to Universal time.

@ernst Thank you Ernst. May be i am thinking too much but i am very confused, which time i should be using when calculating chart. Lets say someone born at 10 AM ET in Boston MA vs 10 AM ET in Cincinnati OH. Being in same timezone, some softwares (i didnt' try Kala yet, due to Mac) are calculating same chart with same planetary position. However if i try using LMT (local mean time), i will get totally different chart. Each timezone cover 15 degree and 1hr long; Different between Boston MA and Cincinnati OH is about 13 degree so it can be 52 min apart as per Local Time.

I noticed some softwares (Vedic) are doing this LMT calculation internally but some are not. Since i am on Mac, i use 'astro gold' and it doesn't do LMT conversion.

I don't know which is the right way.

you have to use the time zone based on what time zone was used to tell the time of birth. before about 1892 all areas were LMT, so when you said 6 AM in new york, it was not 6AM in rochester or boston. But then they created time zones, and put all cities between certain longitudes in a certain time zone an d we have to follow that as that is the time used. The software then adjust all that to solara time, which is the TRUE time we need to calculate planets.

@ernst Thank you Ernst. Thats what i wanted to confirm if Software does that or not. I found some software (like Astro Gold, which i am using currently) does not and just uses time we provide in current timezone. Some vedic softwares specifically mention that they are converting to local mean time to calculate planet positions. I haven't tried Kala yet, but I think I need to move to Kala now.

How i know my current software doesn't convert? i created 2 chart with exact same information except location; for one i used Boston (EST) and for second i used Columbus OH (EST). I got exact same chart. if software was converting to solar time, then i would have different degrees of AS and other planets.

Thanks again.

Charts always convert to solar time to calculate the planets. If you use two places in same time zone with same clock time, the planets will be in teh same place. Only if the TIME is different will the planets be in different places.

@ernst if that’s the case then I am back to square one 😔. What is the significance of birth place when we are creating charts? If we know time and time zone of birth, that’s all needed to create chart.

still very new to astrology and trying to put puzzle pieces together.

thanks.
