Can someone explain the decision of whether to read reversed cards in a spread or not. Some readers do it only for certain situations, others in all spreads. Any recommendations for the beginner? Thanks

From Ernst's manual "Reading The Little Book":

REVERSED CARDS

Many readers read cards differently if they fall upside down, or in reverse. There is a simple way to read reverse cards that can save a lot of memorizing. When a card is reversed the energy that is moving through the sequence of cards stops, and can’t quite manifest on the level of the card in question, therefore the opposite usually happens. Consider the meaning of the card previous to the reversed card, it is due to not mastering this card that the energy is stopped. Personally, I do not read reversed pip cards, I do read Arcana cards and court cards in the reverse.

Thank you Neeshee. I do recall seing that in the manual, but it does not explain the rationale for reading some reversed and others not. Why not read all of them as reversed if it provides more information?

I think for me, I didn't read reversed pip card in the first year though I knew it wouldn't be wrong...then I just tried it on a few light on a star manual casting, and I liked how it felt, and the answers made sense....so maybe try it and see which one "feels right" to you...I think the key is to stick with the same method and you're all set.

I remember in same instances when I first switched to reading all cards reversed, when I didn't like the answer of the reverse pip card, I was very tempted to question the meaning of the card, wondering if "I am doing it right"...those moments quickly dissipated when the client confirmed what the reversed card was communicating as well.

Let us know how it goes ????

Maybe I didn't directly answer your question, I just related my experience ...

A reader can read them reversed if they choose to. I don't read them reversed because I like to keep it streamlined to the birth card system where cards are not reversed. I do like reading face cards reversed and arcana cards reversed though as people can be upside down.
