What is the theory that says you should avoid gems that are positioned 6th, 8th or 12th from the natal?

In general I tend to shy away from gems that are in that area, however some of them I do quite like. Occasionally I get the sort of gnawing away from them, but its usually gems that are in these positions that are either my sun, mars or jupiter, though not always.

Well bump lol. What are our experiences with this? so far benefics seem benign to the effects of this in my experience, but I am curious about shadow planet placement use of this and if it applies to rahu and ketu.

My Sun is in my 12th house, MK in Leo, and has always been a great companion. Meeting Him in the morning with Gayatri Mantras is among my favorite practices. I think it's all about making friends.

@vadipaola This is with respect to gems, not natal.

I don't have much practical experience but since you asked about theory, the theory would be, to begin with, gems increase the energy of the signs and planets that they signify.  Secondly 6,8,12 are dusthanas that in general harm, disrupt and end things that are typically experienced as painful thus the desire to avoid.  Of course there are beneficial aspects to these houses, but in encouraging the increase of their energies it is like playing with fire, swiming in a swamp, walking on a tightrope over an abyss; one could easily miscalculate and make a mistake so the general advice would be to steer clear especially since gems are part of the body of the earth and 6,8,12 houses all portent the heaviest of ailments that can befall the physical body.

Do you have experience of using a gem that is not 6,8,12 in the rasi but is strongly involved with these houses in other vargas and especially in other sensitive vargas to the planet or lord of the sign that the gem is being used for?  That would be an interesting test case.

@quasar259

At least in my experience, I have had good results using a venus that is in the 8th from itself. I have to use clear quartz repeatly to heal my feet in pisces where my moon is at. My moon is in a fatal degree, which is probably healed directly by the venus energies, and I have been using it for nearly 2 decades now, long before I even discovered astrology, or even this system. This would be easier if I could either be barefoot, or consistently wear footwear that isnt detrimental to my feet, however neither option is going to happen, so I constantly use clear quartz. Opal might be an alternative to clear quartz, or perhaps a clear sapphire that would only need to be used infrequently, but the problem is that clear opal, and opal in general is expensive, rare, and not usually in a large enough piece to be effective like a 5 Lbs pieces of quartz. unsurprisingly, finding any real help in that matter isnt going to happen. Curiously, my moon is the most potent planet according to shadbal.

I curiously obtained some mercurial black catseye that would put a ketu in my 11th house in virgo, however it has decided to disappear, so I dont know what to make of that.

Can you explain more what you mean in your last paragraph? Are far as other vargas in the same dusthanas houses in my rashi, I have at times noticed that these stones will give me a clear and defining light headed ness and subtle pain that is almost orgasmic.

a planet that is in one of the Dusthana positions in a varga from its location in the rasi chart disrupts itself as per rules given by Satyacharya, thus we don't want to contribute to that by using a gem for that position.

Out of curiousity, is fatal degree only applicable to D1 Rashi? Or can it apply to the vargas?
