I have the following questions regarding the Hora Varga:
1. Lets say an exalted planet Mars is in Capricorn in the Rasi at 16 degrees so Mars will go to Cancer and will be in the Sun hora in the Hora chart. But Mars is debilitated in Cancer even though it is in the correct Sun hora. How do you interpret this for the Hora chart? Since Mars is debilitated in the Hora chart but it is in the correct hora for a male planet, is debilitation (dignity) override it being in the appropriate hora?
2. I would think for a man it is more important to have your Sun in the Sun hora in the Hora chart and for the woman to have your Moon in the moon hora in the Hora chart? Is this a correct assumption?
3. I would think if a planet has good LA, good dignity, right Bhava cusp, it can give concrete success to the individual, but if that planet is in contrary Sun or Moon Horas, then despite of all the success achieved the person will not feel happy and satisfaction with his/her achievements. So you have to look at both the LA and the placement of the planet being in the appropriate Sun or Moon Horas to really determine how happy a person is with life in general?
4. You use the Rasi chart to determine whether a planet is is in the Moon or the Sun hora of the Hora chart. But once that is done, to analyze that planet's dignity, LA, Bhava cusp, you go to the Hora chart itself for this analysis and not the Rasi. Is this correct?

Yes, correct on assumption 2. in response to three, Hora has to do with flying together, sampat. This means, attracting things. Hora lords is the principle of yin and yang. Male planets need to be yang to attract what they need, if female acting, they don't fly together with what they need. Female planets need to be yin based to fly together with that they need. So the hora lord shows if a planet is operating yin or yang as it needs to be to fulfill its role of flying together to what it needs.
the dignity in hora, really in any varga, is not the most important thing. Its important of Subha Phala, which is simply a quantity measurement of there is money, how much? it does not determine good or bad, just how much good of the good there is and how much bad of the bad there is. The sign a planet is placed on in any varga, the critical thing about that sign is what its lord is doing in the rasi chart? Is it in good or bad avasthas, that will reflect on mars in the context of hora. So if moon is in good avasthas, it will help mars. Mars being DB in hora will reduce the subha phala a bit, but that just changes quantity.
@ernst thanks! now i know how to calculate the Hora, Drekkana. I find Vargas so interesting because there is so much information there about a person...
We calculate the Vargas from the Rasi chart so the Rasi will always play an important role in interpreting the Vargas to some degree...
