in Jaimini 1.2.82, the planet 6th from atmakaraka in varga 30th, removes the obstacles by chanting the 1000 names of a planet deity. Is it the same to chant the 1000 names or 108?

@ernst I'm curious as to why we have to worship the deity and not the planet itself? Would it not work if we chanted a mantra to the Sun instead of Shiva, for example?
Can we use this in other vargas? If yes, would it always be the 6th from Amatykaraka in the D10 or D9 or D7...?

@silvia I was wondering about this with respect to other vargas as well, as a general remedy for an afflicted varga.
Dainya yogas can't be "removed" in this lifetime, but I'm wondering if, when they occur in a varga, accessing the deity 6th from the AMK in that varga can help them be a little "less miserable" or just less important or noticeble.
What do you think Ernst?
Or, for a an afflicted varga, should we use a gem for the placement for of the planet in that varga that is a karaka of that varga... For example, a gem for Venus's placement in the D16, since Venus is the main planet for everyone to examine in the D16? I have a horrid D16 that includes a bad 8th sign dainya yoga involving the debilitation of D1 Lagna lord.

Yes, you can use gems for vargas. A good strategy is to begin with the most important planet for the varga (Moon in D2, Mars in D3... Venus in D9/D16 and then maybe the relevant cusp lord (in D9 maybe 9th cusp lord, for example), if these are afflicted specially.
I'm pretty into gems, so far I've focused on D1, supporting it with D30 &D60, for tangible body-health issues with great results.
My idea was to heal the vargas too, but I haven't gone into it yet, I wonder if it would take more time, since it's things that are more intangible or further away from our control, as opposed to our body, which is right there and can feel the effect of a gem right away.
Gems will have a greater effect on the person if Mars is strong in D1 and D27.
I'm more into meditating and mantras recently, so I'm curious how to apply mantras to vargas.
Are there texts that explain the various names? Or does one need to sit with a dictionary? Are there any recommendations for understanding what the various names of Shiva and Shakti stand for.
