Hi Ernst , friends,
when counting bhavas forward in the rasi chart to find a certain point like PADA, do we count according to the number of signs away from the lagna AND lagna lord? or do we count the cusp number away from the lagna and L/L . meaning if my lagna is in gemini and mercury my L/L is 12 signs from gemini (in Taurus) joint the 12 cusp and my sun in Aries (12 signs away from mercury) but not joint with any cusp. BUT the 11 cusp falls together with the 10 cusp in Pisces with Venus there. my question is which sign is my PADA is it Pisces (with Venus ) counting 12 bhava cusps from mercury(L/L) or Aries( with sun in it but no cusp joined) ,when counting 12 signs from mercury (L/L)?
To determine Pada and Upapada, we always count signs in a forward manner (cusps are a point in the chart, not an “area” like signs are). So, in your case, your Pada is in Aries. To determine your Upapada, you look at where your 10th cusp is (as the starting point) and its lord. So, with your 10th cusp in Pisces, you have to count from the sign of Pisces to Jupiter, etc…
If you have Kala, you can go to the Jaimini screen that should be set up with a screen that indicates the Pada for each sign and the Upapada.
Hope this helps.
