Hi Ernst & all,

I'm diving into career determination with Jaimini again and realize that I don't have Mercury as a career planet as per Jaimini's rules. Am a Virgo lagna and have spent 12+ years in business, including project management, marketing, communication, etc... My Mercury is linked to 7th cusp through rasi aspect and I have Moon, lord of 11th cusp, in my lagna which seems to correspond to the business combo (also connections with the 4th and 10th cusps). Am curious as to why the ascendant lord is not taken into account. Given my example, I feel like someone would have missed a lot about career stuff without Mercury in the picture. Considering also that the ascendant is the foundation of the chart, would you recommend looking at the ascendant with Jaimini techniques as well?

Thank you,

Mona

So you've decided to get back into Jaimini after all.

What inspired you to get back into it?

It can be difficult and interesting to have a dual sign ascendant. The 1st, 4th, 7th, and 10th will all rashi aspect each other. So if one of signs is cursed or blessed it effects the rest. We cannot escape it's effects in private life, interpersonal, public, at home, in family, at work, and in partnerships, and their effect on our physical health. One will affect all the rest!

On top of that our four pillars of life are ruled by the 2 manifesting planets.

Regards,

S.

Especially if the ascendant lord is in one of those 4 whole sign houses.

And nothing in life is private.

And if Saturn and Mars are starving each other, or if Saturn is starved by the Sun in one of those signs, one's weaknesses will be broadcast to the world no matter how much we wish to hide them or to see them in perspective(or to have others see them in perspective, lol!)

On the other hand I think it may give us a connection to the goddess Saraswati.

@mitryendra80 Thanks! I actually went back mostly for career stuff. I’ve always been interested in « what am I supposed to be doing career-wise? » question and have studied other approaches. I like that Ernst teaches a systemic approach to that question so that’s what prompted me to go back to it. I also like all the personality stuff that Jaimini offers. When it comes to my chart, my 4th and 7th are actually ruled by Jupiter in its own house (Pisces) and Mercury ruler of 1st and 10th has a good dignity as well, though it has some starvation. Main issue I think is Rahu in 4th and Ketu in 10th which creates a bandhana yoga. Beyond that, on a pure career standpoint, I feel very « Mercurian » and I’ve always had Mercure types of jobs (also tied with friends) so I find it strange that it’s not a career planet. But, like you said, the ascendant might permeate a lot of things in life and it’s ruled by my AK so that probably links it in some ways.

I assume you have already checked that Mercury is not becoming a career planet though other means: like AK/Pada/UP being in Mercury ruled rasi or Mercury being there or in Svamsa

I remember Ernst mentioned that Lagna and 10H factors still are secondary for career, so can't be ignored. (but yes primary link should be there)

@rajan Correct, I’ve gone through the list and no Mercury. But, now that you mention it, I think I remember Ernst mentioning that as well. Also, Mercury is in Scorpio in D1 and therefore ruled by my AK Mars.

And I just checked my D9 and I have a Mercury ruled ascendant there as well + Mercury is in the D9 Upapada which I don’t believe is part of career planets (planets in the Upapada of the D9) but probably has some influence.

  1. For a moment, can try to keep Mercury aside, and see if there's connection between your professions and the career planets as per the technique. If there is, then maybe Mercury is adding a flavor to those jobs/roles being a Lagna Lord. Though, then the bhava connection has to be there as well to the career graha and Mercury
  2. Also, going a little subjective here: the career related to AK/Svamsa is what has the potential to give fulfillment; whereas Lagna/LL related jobs are what one maybe involved in but not necessarily fulfilling. So maybe you can check internally, how much were your career stints fulfilling. Just to ponder. If less fulfilling, then maybe they were not what you were meant to do !!

@rajan You know, it's very interesting you brought up point 2. because that is exactly what I was contemplating since yesterday and these posts. Will also look into your first point as well. Thanks for your insights, they are always so useful 😉

when AK rules a planet in the Navamsa, that planet also becomes a carreer planet, or a skill planet, somehow.

What about when the AK rules the navamsha ascendant?

You have probably checked the Su if it is stronger than AK. Anyway, I have in my notes that lagna, lagna lord, 10 cusp and its lord usually give dabbling and stepping stones. Emphasis on usually ???? as 12 years plus is not dabbling. But it is not an exact science (yet) it seems.
