Hello Ernst,

Jaimini does not give Sa a career, but Sa can make one work hard in whatever field they get into.

What about jobs such as cleaning, janitorial work, driving a trash truck, or working at a dump? Couldn't those be Sa jobs? Or, at least Sa influencing the career?

It's really something to think about that Jaimini did not make any mention of menial labor jobs such as cleaning. Saturn is said to make a person doing accomplished deeds, so the very opposite of such jobs. Is no self meant to do such jobs but some people simply do them due to other aspects of their fate? But people with menial jobs have their interest, the thing they are into that matters to them when they are not working that they live for. We have to look at these careers given by jaimini as what the person is living to do. its not always the way they make money, its OFTEN not the way they make money. How the money comes is from the 11th from pada. And sometimes a person is really into something but not doing, like someone who is passionate about movies, knows movie history, knows about movie technology, loves to learn it, talk about it, go to a film fest, but never makes a movie, but they are living for that.

@ernst If the 11th from pada is empty, is the income shown by the planets in the rashis that rashi-aspect the 11th?

When we just say "pada" we are referring to lagna pada right?

When we are finding the career through the methods you teach in the latter portion of the Jaimini III course, could we also color in details with the signs? So, we first find the career planets and then the bhavas influencing to find the general career themes, but then, the signs can add some detail?

I have noticed on more rare occasions when looking for career indications, that the usual method of looking at the lagna/10th house actually shows the career whereas the jaimini self factors don't. Curious if you have seen this from time to time?

@scott-m-19 No, I have found the Jaimini karaks to be super important for this.

I have to ask about gardening indicators. Jaimini says malefics in 3rd and 6th from sva can make one a farmer. Seems appropriate to have the 3rd/6th as bhavas for gardening since it is manual/difficult labor? Doesn't seem like a one planet indicates farming/gardening. Though Mo deals with things that grow. But in Graha Sutras, there is the chapter on what plants the grahas rule. I guess just use Ju/Me for farmers in general since they deal with plants that bear food?

Yeah, its very interesting what you wrote here. It really makes me think that these 'self' factors of AK, Sva, pada and upapada, the Su, that one's 'career' is really how they identify themselves. Like how you wrote in the career determination handout, not so much the money making job that is the career, though it could be. It kind of summersaults the common notion of what most people call "career". It is interesting to ponder...

Usually look for saturn and venus to do with gardens. Saturn is the fertilizer and venus is the growth of planets. That is why saturn is exalted in the green sign of libra.

But this is in the context for gardens as such. Not a career as a gardner, right? Because of Sa not being a career planet??
