Hi Ernst,

I have been contemplating about the 11th House. The 11th House is the house of gain (long-term), fix house but it is also the secondary House of Loss as it is 12th from the 12th. I try to reconcile this idea that it is the House of gain yet it is also the House of loss. I supposed not all losses are terrible. If you lose something bad and gain something better then that is a good loss. Like you lost a bad spouse then you gain more time to enjoy your time with others and perhaps you will find a better spouse (11th House). Or if you lost something good but gain something even better then that is a good 11th House gain. If you have a good 11th house then you for sure will get some gain in your life since it is a fix House.

We go through life we will always lose something. Just part of life. So the more important question is what do we gain for losing that thing? Is it a good gain or a bad gain 11th House or is it a good loss or a bad loss 12th House? That will depend of the dignity, aspect of the 11th House.

Is my thinking on the right track?

Hi @tuyet

The way I have come to think about 11th house is that it represents our final gains, material & social desires, which ultimately we have to surrender and let go of in order to succeed in the 12th house of attaining final liberation and freedom.

See it this way, you want to get a college degree, ruled by the 11th house. YOu work for that for  years loosing lots of time you could be having grand adventures climbing up a sheer wall in a beautiful part of the world. You loose 80,000 to pay for your tuition each year and loose a total of roughly 400,000. Your high school girlfriend wanted to go to a different college and you loose her as you drift apart in your sophomore year. The loss of the 11th house is what you pay to get the gain. So the moral of the 11th is, make sure what you gain is worth the price. The 11th is not a free gain. It's a house of titles, becoming pres, senator, whatever, a person pays a price for that. So anything that is not free, that you pay a hefty price for, that's the 11th house gain.

The third house is also a house of getting something. You get it as long as you put energy into it. There is not a huge price attached, yeah, I can do this, I just have to take the time and energy to do it! that's the third house. The 7th is also a house of gain, the price you pay is the agreed upon deal of the partnership required to gain that thing.

All the kama houses, 3/7/11 are houses of getting something you want and they require very different things to get.

@qwerty @ernst - thank you both for your replies. I am taking your Prediction with Vimshottari Dasas and I am really enjoying learning how to analyze the Vargas. The vargas offer so much details and insights to the specific areas of your life. I notice that i have a few 2/11 pv yogas in my vargas, hence why I started to contemplate about the 11th Bhava. Yes, for sure to get the titles that i wanted, there were much sacrifices made in my younger days. But for me the sacrifices were worth it as later in life I am reaping the rewards from them. I am looking at the nephews and nieces charts and understanding the vargas, houses to help me advise them....You are right, there is no such things as free lunches. We have to pay for what we get out of life. But i think the 11th house the price tag is high so make sure what your gain is worth the price you paid...

yes, exatly, we really have to make sure that the 11th house price is not to high. That's why its considered a secondary dusthana, 12th from 12th, and 6th from 6th, its easy to pay to much and work too hard for things and then, did it really matter?!

As 12th from 12th, to check the well being of the 12th we have to check also the 11th.

So, a bad 11th will keep one trapped in getting better results despite always being pretty small. Frustration preventing one from letting it go and step into the 12th.

For example: having planets in both 11th and 12th. But better dignity and more auspicious planets in the 12th.

So, if the 12th offers a more promising landscape, is it possible to disengage from the 11th, to abandon completely 11th house affairs? Is it a way? Or having planets in a house we cannot avoid it, so that the only solution is absolute detachment?
