@shaman Ernst has taught these effects, you can find them in the course, Interpreting Jaagradadi and predicting with Jaagradadi and Baladi.

My understanding is that JD Avasthas only help you understand the level of effect an Avastha has. Take for instance Saturn starving moon, in two different signs, Aries and Capricorn. In Aries the starvation will be felt much less, or perhaps not at all. While in Capricorn it will be felt to its full effect. I have found JD Avasthas to work in this regard, in my limited experience. The worst shaming of the moon I have ever encountered was a Saturn/Mo conjunction in Capricorn in the 5th. I have encountered a few people with Saturn/Mo in Aries and, when , appropriate, I prob with questions to see if they have a starvation. From what I've seen they do not, or minimally. I have never had a client with Saturn/mo conjunct in Aries, unfortunately.
An awake planet has awareness, it can function, change, grow as a result. A sleeping planet no awareness of what it is actually doing, everything is coming from the unconsciousness, there is no hope to change, grow, improve. A dreaming planet has some awareness, but not full awareness. It can make some progress, but is unconscious of much and so will auto pilot a lot as well. These avasthas mirror the lajjitaadi avasthas in some ways. However, these avasthas are more about what we choose to connect to. Are we connecting with awareness or are we just following unconscious motivations to connect? and by this, I mean to everyting we connet to, what we eat, getting a car, a house, a person. we CONNECT to someting and then we have it concretely. THe connection comes first from an emotional source.
